CoPIRG Standing Up To Powerful Interests

Call to protect our rights at the ballot

The Legislature wants to make an honest effort to safeguard Colorado’s constitution, but their proposed solution would unfairly hurt citizens and grassroots organizations that depend on volunteers to pass initiatives. What’s more, it would do absolutely nothing to stop special interest groups from amending the constitution by simply paying their way onto the ballot.

The ballot box has been an important tool for our democracy. The ballot process helped us ban lobbyist gifts and corporate contributions to the legislators as well as create millions of dollars in funding for the Child Health Program, Medicaid, community health centers, and anti-tobacco programs.

Please call your representative today, and urge them to ensure that there is a fair playing field for our voice to be heard at the ballot.

Here's a sample message you can leave:

“Hi, my name is ________, and I’m from _______, Colorado. Please oppose SCR 3. This proposal would hurt citizens and grassroots organizations that depend on volunteers to pass ballot initiatives. It would also do nothing to keep special interest groups from amending the constitution by paying their way onto the ballot.”

Then, tell us what they said and help us track our progress by filling out the form below:
