Improving  Beef Standards in Schools

On May 14, 2010, the USDA announces improved safety standards for beef served in school lunches after CoPIRG Foundation staff launched our Safe Food, Healthy Kids campaign.  The new standards will cover beef purchased by the National School Lunch Program, which provides food to 31 million children around the country. The new standards will mean increased testing of the beef and stronger criteria for acceptable meat.

Creating Better Access to Healthcare

On June 16, 2010 CoPIRG Foundation released a comprehensive guide for how the state of Colorado should implement federal health care reform.  Key recommendations focus on the creation of health exchanges that will foster competition among health providers and provide individuals and small businesses with better access to cheaper, higher quality options as well as focusing treatment on primary care.

Danny Katz, State Director

Danny Katz has spent 9 years working for U.S. PIRG, the national federation of state Public Interest Research Groups. He was an assistant organizing director for the Wisconsin PIRG New Voters Project in 2004, which helped to register more than 110,000 18-29 year olds to vote.  

Subsequently, Danny was the organizing director for CALPIRG for 4 years where he oversaw their youth organizing program recruiting, training and mobilizing hundreds of college students each year.  He has been recognized nationally, leading to invitations to run trainings at the Washington, D.C. Powershift conference and the Arizona State Student Association’s fall organizing conference.
