COPIRG Survey of Toy Safety (new window)

COLORADO SPRINGS - The Copirg or Colorado Interest Public Research Group announces its 22nd Annual Survey of Toy Safety at Memorial Hospital.  Copirg representative John Schleicher tells Newschannel 13 that hazardous toys are still sold in stores across America.  There are 4 areas focused on, in the report.  They are toys that could be choking hazards, children swallowing small powerful magnets from toys that join together and cause serious bowel problems, toys that are too loud and toys that have lead or other potentially toxic chemicals.

Schleicher and Copirg say that parents need to write Congress and tell lawmakers to increase the budget of the Consumer Product Safety Comission.  It's mission is to ensure the safety of toys made here and imported from other countries to be sold in America. Copirg believes there are not enough inspectors to do the job, based on the previous recent toy recalls.
